Recording with Uranus for the Movie A Letter to the World

Last Saturday, June 28th, we started the short film production of the movie A Letter to the World by and with Poet Uranus Musamen in Beylikdüzü.

Safi Nurzai and Sabine Büsch did the filming and the sound recording of Uranus reading her text. Thomas Büsch was recording the shooting and filming exercise on ZOOM for the other participants.

You can watch the modified recording of the session here:

Uranus prepared the letter she is reading as a poetic text about her story, her struggles and the challenges she had faced of being a woman, being born in Afghanistan, showcasing at the same time the history of Afghanistan, how it started and where we are right now, especially after the Taliban came to power. The text showcases the emotions of Uranus and her feelings about herself and other women in Afghanistan.

The final movie will be quoting a film by Ken Loach produced right after September 11th, a Day which affected the current situation in Afghanistan a lot.

Ken Loach’s film features Vladimir Vega, a refugee from Chile to Britain in the late 1970s, writing a letter of sympathy and solidarity to the “mothers, fathers and loved ones” of those who died on last year’s September 11.

Mr Vega points out that in 1973 the enemies of freedom committed an act of war on his country, ousted the elected government, murdered the elected prime minister Salvador Allende, and set up a military dictatorship under Margaret Thatcher’s friend Augusto Pinochet. The dictatorship slaughtered up to 30,000 of its opponents on some estimates.

Afghanistan is suffering for the second time under Taliban rule. The interventions have led to international terrorist groups establishing themselves there. The bill is now being paid by the vulnerable, who did not cause it.

The shooting will be continuing within the next week
