Maryam Karimi is an Afghan lawyer, living in the Netherlands for four years now. She has researched the increase in the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, and she is a co-founder of a legal services organization in the Netherlands called AWA. The name AWA stands for: Advocacy, Women Unity, Action. The name has a profound meaning that is understood and respected in both Dutch and Farsi. It reflects the commitment to advocacy, solidarity among women and taking action to promote equality and justice.
Maryam Karimi formerly worked with the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission in the southwestern provinces of Afghanistan, where she served as a researcher. Today she supports and advises people trading between the EU and Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.
