We are pleased to invite you to the film-screening of “Writing Hawa” by the Afghan filmmaker Najiba Noori, on December 5th, 6:00pm, in postane, Istanbul.
For decades the lives of Afghan women have been shaped by forced marriages, lack of education, violence and silenced dreams.
The movie tells a story of emancipation from patriarchal traditions by three generations of Hazara women: the director herself, her niece and her mother. Noori lets us see from a family window how life changed after the crucial fall of Kabul and the arrival of Taliban in the country.
The film also tells the moving story of Hawa, a woman who never gave up on her dreams and aspirations.
At the same time the film deals with themes such as forced migration and separation from one’s home, culture, country and family. In fact, the filmmaker has had the chance to escape the country after the events of August 2021.
The screening aims to raise awareness of the situation in Afghanistan and demonstrate the power of a documentary made by a journalist in exile based on her direct experience.
Najiba Noori is an Afghan filmmaker who attended photography and filmmaking workshops in Kabul, Afghanistan. She left her country in 2021 when the Taliban took power and now lives in France. Hawa is her first feature-length documentary.
The movie is in Dari with English subtitles.
After the screening, we will host an online open discussion with the director and the producer, who is working for TAG film: Najiba Noori and Chirstian Popp.
Everyone is welcome to join us for the film screening and after-screening talk snacks and refreshments will be provided.
