The draft legislation, leaked to the media in October, that would have imposed prison sentences on anyone found to “engage in, praise or incite behaviour contrary to biological sex at birth and general morality” in Turkey was dropped from the bill when it reached parliament last week following public protests and criticism from opposition parties in Turkey.
Against this background, we will show a television report by Thomas and Sabine about transgender people in Istanbul, which they produced in 2006.
We will then discuss how these socially relevant topics can be covered journalistically and what we need to pay attention to.
