When the Taliban took Kabul, Dayana Daneshwar’s life shrank to a series of calculated escapes — from her own home, from neighbours’ threats, from the stares that followed her everywhere. People linked to the Taliban called her “non-Muslim”.
This drawing symbolizes the fall of colonialism and a struggle that has lasted over a century and a half. Whether under the names of the Soviet Union, the Taliban, the Mujahideen, or American forces, this land has always borne wounds, with the memories of war and suffering etched deeply into its soil.
